Charm City Riichi is a friendly riichi mahjong club based in Baltimore and Savage, Maryland. Whether you're a complete beginner curious about the game or an experienced player looking for regular competition, we'd love to hear from you.
Discord
We mainly communicate using Discord, a web service that allows groups of people to connect using online chat communities called "servers". Our Discord is the best place to ask questions, get directions to meetup venues, stay up to date on upcoming events, and chat with other members between sessions.

Newcomer FAQ
Do I need my own mahjong set?
No, you don't need to bring anything. We have all the game materials needed. That said, if you have a tile set you love, feel free to bring it.
Can complete beginners come?
Yes! All skill levels are welcome, and we're always happy to teach. Check out our Getting Started guide to learn the basics before your first session if you'd like.
What's the cost?
Sunday afternoons are free. Thursdays and Tuesdays have venue cover charges ($5). See our Weekly Meet-Ups page for venue-specific details.
How long do games take?
Game length varies significantly, and it's common to have players swap in and out. Event sessions are 4 hours total, so you can join whenever it works for you and play as many rounds as you'd like.
Do I need to RSVP?
It varies by venue. No Land Beyond (Thursdays and Sundays) requires an Eventbrite signup. Omnihedral (Tuesdays) is drop-in, no reservation needed.
What do I bring?
Just yourself! We have all materials. For food and drinks, No Land Beyond has a full bar and kitchen. Omnihedral has snacks available for purchase.
Is it competitive or casual?
Our club does both! Our weekly meetups run more casual, with a wide variety of skill levels. Our one-day and two-day events are competitive.
